Rugby Match Reports 2011/2012 BRA 3rd XV 5 Lurgan College 29 Lurgan College travelled to BRA on Saturday with a number of debutants and produced an impressive performance to come away with the win. The College have high hopes for the season ahead and blooded a number of younger players with Graeme Bell, Cameron Lyness and Ryan McCann all included on the team sheet. The game started at a frantic pace as both sides struggled to get control of the ball. A moment of magic from live wire out-half Ben McIlwaine put the first points on the board as he ghosted past five tacklers from his own half to score a try. This was followed up with a touchdown from pacing back Chris Clague as the visitors extended their lead. However, BRA continued to press and were rewarded with a score in the corner to keep them within touching distance at half time. In the second half the College finally moved through the gears and the forwards began to assert themselves on the game with Dean Wilson in particular continually breaking the gain line. In fact, he was next to score as he plundered his way through the BRA defence before beautifully chipping the ball over the fullback and collecting the ball to score. As the half wore on Ben McIlwaine continued to be a thorn in the side of the opposition and his performance was rewarded with another try after a good pass from Ryan McCann. Best on the day for the College were McIlwaine and Wilson. It was a clean sweep for the College on Saturday as the 2nds recorded a hard-fought 22-12 win against Dungannon Royal 2nd XV with Des Bingham, Dean English and Stuart McKimm putting in fine performances. The Medallion also defeated their BRA counterparts with a 24-14 win with Matthew Laird amongst the try scorers.
