The Lurgan College 1st XV rugby squad headed off to Canada this summer in what was described as their biggest ever sports tour. The twenty-five strong party had the opportunity to visit the provinces of Ontario and Alberta, playing games in Calgary and Toronto and taking in the many sights along the way. Whilst in Canada the players had an opportunity to spend the first weekend with Canadian hosts and great friendships were developed (despite being narrowly defeated in a high scoring game!). The tour party then travelled through the famous Rockies and stopped off in Jasper and Banff taking in the breath taking scenery and famous landmarks such as Banff Hot Springs, Lake Louise and the Ice Fields along the way. Our final week was spent in Toronto and this was packed with activities such as theme parks, baseball games and the CN Tower. We also managed to squeeze in a game along the way and again were extremely unlucky to come away defeated in a close game. The trip has been made possible through a successful fundraising campaign which included a quiz, Christmas draw, bag pack, sportsman’s dinner, golf event and sponsorship by a number of local companies including Classic Mineral Water, Cottage Kitchens and Alan Brown and Company. |
