Art and Design aims to give students the opportunities to develop:
Creative and imaginative powers, and the practical skills of communicating and expressing ideas, feelings and meanings in art, craft and design;
Investigative, analytical, experimental and interpretive capabilities, aesthetic understanding, critical skills and the ability to realise intentions;
Understanding of codes and conventions of art, craft and design and awareness of contexts in which they operate;
Knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary societies and in other times and cultures.
The subject offers the opportunity to learn through a variety of ways including practical studies and research into; artists/designers from the past, contemporary artists/designers and local art work, presentation, class critiques, and ICT technologies including Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator and Digital Photography.
GCSE Art and Design
Assessment consists of two pieces of coursework and an Externally Set Examination.
